Guide to Nissaki Corfu
Nissaki, meaning little island in Greek, is a small quiet village which has proved over the years to be a popular holiday destination for those who seek a quite holiday, away from the busy tourist resorts of the island. Nissaki village offers a variety of accommodation from self-catering apartments and studios to private villas with pools and the famous “Nissaki Beach Hotel”, all tucked in among the olive groves. Driving through the main road of the village you will meet a few tavernas, offering a variety of Greek dishes. You can enjoy your meal in their verandas, the majority of which offer a splendid view. Along the main road you will also find several souvenir shops, super markets and a small traditional café, ( by the church ).
Kaminaki is another coastal resort of Nissaki village. A very steep road will lead you down to the beach so drive carefully. The bay is magnificent, with white fine pebbles, but sun beds and umbrellas are available for those you wish to sunbath more comfortably. There are two tavernas where you can enjoy your meal while swimming in the crystal clear waters of the bay. Kaminaki does not usually get very crowded and it is ideal for those you wish to enjoy their swim in a tranquil atmosphere. Asterios and his wife are the friendly boat hirers of Kaminaki, always willing to chat and help. Krouzeri is the last beach as you drive through the village. It is accessible either from the “Nissaki Beach Hotel” road or by following the sight on the main road. A steep road will lead you down to the beach. Popular with the locals, Krouzeri can get quite crowded, especially at the weekend but still is a lovely pebbly beach with facilities such as water-sports, boat hire, sun beds and umbrellas. There are two tavernas, one in the middle and one in the very edge of the beach, offering a variety of dishes. “Nissaki Beach Hotel” is located on the other end of the beach and its beach bar and swimming pool are open to the public.
For those who wish to spend a day away from the sea, walking through the narrow paths of the hills can be an adventure. Greek countryside is full of beauties, especially in spring with hundreds of wild flowers growing in the shade of the huge olive trees. However avoid this experience during the hot days of the summer as it can prove quite tiring.
